Our way to Aberdeen, Scotland

After leaving the Holyrood Place in Edinburgh late morning (Wed, Aug 23) we began our trip North to Aberdeen. Along the way we stopped to be a tourist. Our first stop was in Dundee. We wanted to see the authentic, historical, one of the six oldest war ships in the world, the HM Frigate Unicorn.

The ship was pretty big and so cool to see it all made from wood!

Inside we had 4 levels to walk through. The top had a nice little replica of what the ship looks like.

Pretending to be at war!

These canons are the real thing along with the canon balls. In fact a lot of the canon balls are used. Hmmmm.....

I loved this sign.

We each got a turn at turning the helm. It's harder than it looks.

Loved seeing the musical instruments.
Got to have entertainment when your our to sea!

 Selfie station with the mascot.

This was the captain quarters.

2nd level was the housing and living part for the soldiers.

A little dark and dreary!

3rd level held lots and lots of ropes.  It would also have been where the extra weaponry was kept.

The 4th level isn't near as tall as the others. In fact each level down the ceiling long a little shorter and shorter. In the bottom we were crouching low.

The bottom level was full of pallets of brick. Crazy to think the ship can sail with so much weight!

This 6th oldest ship in the world was pretty awesome to walk through and see. It's in great condition because the ship was actually never used. The ship was finished being built just as the war ended. That was about the era they decided to start making ships out of other material. Most of the artifacts we saw were real and had been used in different wars. Pretty cool.

Our next stop for the day was Braughty Castle Museum.
This castle was used by the Submarine Miners. They were prepared to plant explosive mines under the water to help prevent an enemy attack. This was a castle that offers inside tours for free. Unfortunately they closed about 3 and we didn't arrive until 4:30 thinking they closed at 5 like every
 other place. Oh well..

.

The castle was right at the waters edge. Unless you wanted to swim you couldn't walk around the whole castle.

The casualties of war.

 Loved the draw bridge.

Being the castle was literally at the waters edge. We ventured down to the beach.

When Camille and Hanna saw this rock they both thought of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Hanna indulged Camille. She climbed out on the slippery rock, flipped her hair and sang!
So much fun!

We had one more spot we all wanted to stop at before getting to Aberdeen for the night.
Dunnotar Castle in Stonehaven.

Unfortunately the fog had rolled in and you could barely see.
We decided to go ahead and drive into Aberdeen but then back track the next morning. So glad we did!
